During the United Nations General Assembly’s review of a resolution on States’ climate change obligations, Jérémie Adlerfligel, Third Secretary at the Principality of Monaco’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, delivered a speech welcoming the adoption of this important resolution. The resolution calls on all States to comply with their obligations under international law to protect the climate system and the environment from anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr Adlerfligel used this opportunity to reiterate that at the national level, the Principality of Monaco is fully committed to achieving the 1.5°C global warming target, as the country confirmed during COP30 in Belém. He emphasised the consistent, structured policy being pursued by the Monegasque authorities, targeting three high-emissions sectors: road transport, waste treatment and building energy performance.

The official highlighted the new nationally determined contribution published by the Prince’s Government. This commits Monaco to reducing its emissions by 67.6% by 2035, in addition to the 55% by 2030 target, in line with the IPCC’s recommendations and the path to carbon neutrality by 2050. He also reiterated the Principality’s commitment to doubling its international funding for climate action in developing countries by 2028.

The speech reaffirmed Monaco’s dedication to climate multilateralism and the strict implementation of international law in response to the global environmental emergency.
