The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has announced changes to its executive leadership following the appointment of Olivier Wenden as Chief of Staff to HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.
According to a statement issued by the Prince’s Palace, Wenden will take up his new role on March 2, 2026. He has served as vice chairman and chief executive of the Foundation since October 2019, after five years as executive director.
During his time leading the Foundation, Wenden oversaw the expansion and structuring of its programmes in line with the priorities of the Sovereign Prince. The organisation strengthened its international profile and reinforced its position as a bridge between scientific research, financial actors and public decision makers, with a focus on accelerating sustainable development. Particular emphasis was placed on advancing initiatives linked to the blue economy.
As part of the transition, Romain Ciarlet will assume the roles of vice chairman and chief executive from March 2. Ciarlet has been executive director of the Foundation since December 2019. The appointment comes as the organisation marks its twentieth anniversary and reflects a focus on continuity in leadership.
Working closely with Wenden in recent years, Ciarlet has played a key role in developing the Foundation’s work on ocean related sustainability. His contributions include the launch of the Ocean Innovators Platform and the development of financial tools such as the ReOcean Fund and the Blue Economy Index. He has also been involved in initiatives aimed at supporting emerging leaders through the Re Generation Future Leaders Programme.
The Foundation said the leadership changes are intended to ensure stability while continuing to advance its mission to address environmental challenges and protect planetary health.
